Update from Session: Jun. 21, 2020

Created: Saturday, June 20, 2020

The following letter from our session is addressed to the congregation:

To the Congregation of the First Presbyterian Church of Newtown:

The Presbytery of New York City assigned us a moderator of session - Rev. Bob Anderle, Union Church of Bay Ridge. On June 7, we had our first virtual session meeting.  Our next meeting will be on Sunday, July 5.

We continue to meet online via Zoom for worship on Sundays with Rev. Derrick McQueen at the St. James Presbyterian Church in the Village of Harlem, NYC.

On the Reopening of our Church Building
On May 23, the Presbytery of New York City posted a directive about the reopening of church buildings. Here is a part of that directive:

The Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA), to the congregations of the Presbytery of New York City: “We are not for rushing people back into the pews when this virus is still claiming victims. When people can go to church without fear of infection, we will be ready.”

We - not the building - are the church, so please continue praying for each other, calling one another. We pray that soon we will be together once again.
